Our Sterling Promise: Silver Purity, Weight & Sizing, Explained

A clear, honest guide to our hand-poured silver: purity, the silver content we guarantee by weight, sizing, stamping, and our no-surprises promise.

Sell Your Gold USA is a family-owned American precious-metal recycling and manufacturing company — and yes, we are silversmiths. Every statue in our collection is designed and hand-poured by us, right here in the United States. Before you add a piece to your cart, you deserve clear, honest answers to the two questions we hear most: “How pure is the silver?” and “How big is it?” This is our straight-shooting guide to both — the purity, the weight, the sizing, and the promise behind every piece. No fine print. No surprises.

The short version
  • Solid sterling silver, .925 minimum — often higher, at no extra charge.
  • You receive the exact silver content we list, guaranteed by weight.
  • Hand-poured in the USA by our own silversmiths.
  • A sterling piece weighs a touch more in total — but never less silver.
  • .999 fine silver available on request.

Who you’re buying from

We’re not resellers flipping a product we know nothing about. We’re a working precious-metal facility: we recycle silver in mass quantities and we manufacture finished, hand-poured collectibles in-house. That means when you have a question about purity, casting, weight, or sizing, you’re talking to the people who actually pour the metal — not a middleman. Made in the USA, by us, every time.

First, a 60-second lesson in purity

Precious metals are almost never sold at 100% purity, and that’s completely normal — even the “pure” stuff is a standardized grade. The easiest way to understand silver is to borrow from gold for a second.

Take a 100-gram bar of 14-karat gold. “14 karat” doesn’t mean it’s all gold — it means it’s 58.5% pure gold. So that 100 g bar actually contains 58.5 g of real gold, which is about 1.88 troy ounces of gold content. “14 karat” is just the recognized name for that purity level.

Silver works exactly the same way — it just uses different names:

Common name Stamp Purity Pure metal in a 100 g piece
Fine silver.99999.9%99.9 g silver
Sterling silver.92592.5%92.5 g silver
Pure gold24k99.9%99.9 g gold
14-karat gold14k58.5%58.5 g gold

The takeaway: “sterling silver” is to silver what “14 karat” is to gold — a trusted, standardized name for a specific purity. Our pieces are solid sterling silver (.925 minimum), and often higher.

How much silver is actually in the metal? .999 Fine 99.9% silver .925 Sterling 92.5% silver Pure silver Small amount of alloy (helps it cast beautifully)

Our promise: you get the silver we say you get

Here’s the heart of it. Our statues are sold as collectibles first — the silver is a beautiful bonus. But we guarantee the silver content, by weight, exactly as stated in the listing. Order a 6-ounce piece, and you receive a full 6 ounces of real silver. Order 32 ounces, you get 32 ounces. Full stop.

Now the warm-and-fuzzy part — the why. As a recycling facility, we buy large quantities of mixed-purity silver every day, ranging from .925 sterling all the way up to pure. To avoid the time, energy, and waste of refining everything down, we hand-pour with that recycled silver. The result is honest, beautiful, American-made craftsmanship — and two simple guarantees on every single piece:

Guarantee #1
The exact silver content
If the listing says 6 oz, there are 6 full ounces of real silver in your piece — guaranteed by weight.
Guarantee #2
A minimum of .925 sterling
Purity is never lower than .925 — and it’s often higher (95–98%). If it runs higher, you don’t pay a penny more.

“Order a 6-ounce piece, and you receive a full 6 ounces of real silver. Order 32, you get 32. Full stop.”

Why your statue might weigh a little more than the number on the label

This is the one that surprises people, so let’s make it crystal clear. Because sterling silver is 92.5% silver plus a small amount of alloy, a sterling piece has to weigh slightly more in total to hold the same amount of real silver as a pure piece. You are never getting less silver — you’re getting exactly what we promise. The scale just reads a touch higher.

You order a 32 oz piece → you always receive 32 oz of real silver .999 Fine 32 oz of silver ≈1,000 g .925 Sterling 32 oz of silver ≈1,075 g Same silver inside — the gold bar is identical in both. The sterling piece weighs about 75 g more total because of the alloy — never less silver.

Here’s the same idea as a quick reference for the most common sizes:

You order Real silver you receive (guaranteed) Total weight if .999 fine Total weight if .925 sterling
1 oz1 oz (~31 g)~31 g~34 g
3 oz3 oz (~93 g)~93 g~101 g
6 oz6 oz (~187 g)~187 g~202 g
12 oz12 oz (~373 g)~374 g~404 g
32 oz32 oz (~995 g)~1,000 g~1,075 g

In plain English: every column on the left is your real, guaranteed silver. The only thing that changes is the total weight on the scale — never the silver you take home.

Sizing & dimensions: what to expect

Because every statue is individually hand-poured, no two pieces are exactly identical — that’s part of the charm of owning something handmade. Dimensions fall within a predictable range for each size. Here’s a general guide so you know what to expect before it arrives:

Size Real silver content Approx. sterling weight Typical dimensions (L × W × H)
1 oz1 oz~34 g≈ 1.3 × 0.7 × 1.2 in
3 oz3 oz~101 g≈ 1.9 × 1.0 × 1.8 in
6 oz6 oz~202 g≈ 2.4 × 1.2 × 2.2 in
12 oz12 oz~404 g≈ 3.0 × 1.5 × 2.8 in
32 oz32 oz~1,075 g≈ 4.3 × 1.9 × 4.0 in

“Does it come stamped?”

Because each piece is hand-poured from recycled silver of mixed (but always .925 or higher) purity, we sell and stand behind every statue as solid sterling silver. The exact silver content for that size is always declared right on the product listing, so you know precisely what you’re getting before you buy.

Want pure .999 fine silver? We can do that.

If you’re a purist and you specifically want .999 fine silver, just ask — we’re happy to make it.
